Wigan Remembered 10th November 2019

It was a cold, crisp but sunny morning as Wigan remembered those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts across the decades. The parade, having assembled at the Town Hall, arrived at the cenotaph where a large crowd awaited their arrival.

The Last Post sounded and the crowd fell silent to observe two minutes silence which is always impeccably observed. “Reveille” was sounded to end the silence and the first verse of the National Anthem followed the reading of the “Poem for the Fallen”.

Once the Mayor and other local dignitaries had laid their wreaths, the other organisations were called forward. The wreath on behalf of the Mark Degree was laid by W Bro Terry Dickinson from Murray Mark.

The members of the parade then retired into the Parish Church for a Service of Remembrance.
